Schools receive PE and sport premium funding; ring fenced money to spend on improving the quality of PE and sports provision. Each school receives £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil Year from 1-6.

Headteachers decide how best to spend the Premium funding, although they remain accountable and must be able to demonstrate effective spending and impact across the school. The Department of Education requires schools in receipt of the funding, to publish evidence of their annual spend and its impact.

At Days Lane Primary, we recognise the lifelong impact of sport, as well as a healthy diet, to the future well-being of children. This is supported by government and independent research which conclude that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities, have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of pupils.

We are delighted to be using our Sports Premium funding in the following ways:-

  • Quality professional training to improve teaching skills
  • A qualified sports coach,  working with our children throughout PE lessons and during lunchtimes, allowing our children to experience a broad range of games & sports
  • Promoting active lunchtimes through the intitiaion of different sporting activities by a qualified coach
  • A range of different sports clubs after school to encourage the active participation of more children
  • Extensive opportunities for children to participate in inter-house and inter-school competition
  • Providing cover to release teachers for professional development in PE/Sport
  • A growing culture and awareness of the importance and benefits of active, healthy lifestyles for children
